The Physics, AS at TJC offers tracks in Physics/Astronomy and in Geophysics. Regardless of which track you select, this degree will allow you to move forward in your career, develop and use new technologies, methods, and theories based on the results of research to deepen our understanding of how things work and contribute to innovative, real-world applications.

Physicists study the fundamental nature of the universe, ranging from the vastness of space to the smallest of subatomic particles. Those earning bachelor’s degrees in physics or astronomy commonly find successful careers applying their knowledge to research, education, or application in space and Earth science, to medical science, or to engineering, among other fields.

Geophysicists analyze seismic waves, gravity, and magnetic fields to map the Earth’s interior, monitor for natural hazards, and find or monitor natural resources like groundwater, oil, and natural gas. Those earning bachelor’s degrees in geophysics may find careers in environmental monitoring, oil and gas exploration, and mapping of Earth’s internal structures, among other fields.

Upon completion of our Physics degree, you are prepared to continue your study of physics or geophysics at a four-year institution or pursue admission into various medical related, technology, and engineering fields.

Marketable skills for this award include: analytical/quantitative skills, critical thinking, mathematics, problem solving, team work, and written communication skills.
