Ophthalmic Medical Assisting: Basic Ophthalmic and Optometric Assisting Skills, OSA

This Occupational Skills Award (OSA) provides students basic skills to be considered for jobs as ophthalmic medical assistants. An ophthalmic medical assistant is a technician who performs duties such as: patient work-ups and history recording, administering basic vision tests before a doctor sees patients, and performing as a scribe for a doctor in an examination room.

This OSA is not a stand-alone award, but is embedded within both the Certificate and the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Ophthalmic Medical Assisting. As such, it cannot be pursued as a separate major, but will automatically be awarded to students who successfully complete their first term of Ophthalmic Medical Assisting (OPTS) courses in the Ophthalmic Medical Assisting, AAS program.

Marketable skills for this award include: critical thinking and technical skills.
