Ophthalmic Medical Assisting: Basic Opticianry Skills, OSA

This Occupational Skills Award (OSA) provides students basic skills to be considered for a jobs as opticians. An optician is a technician who fills prescriptions for eyeglasses. Opticians assist patients with eyeglass frames and lens selection. They also measure patient’s interpupillary distance and bifocal fitting heights for eyeglass order forms. Opticians fit, dispense, and adjust eyeglasses.

This OSA is not a stand-alone award, but is embedded within both the Certificate and the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Ophthalmic Medical Assisting. As such, it cannot be pursued as a separate major, but will automatically be awarded to students who successfully complete their first term of Ophthalmic Medical Assisting (OPTS) courses in the Ophthalmic Medical Assisting, AAS program.

Marketable skills for this award include: critical thinking and technical skills.
