Note: - The Child Development/Early Childhood Program is located at the TJC Central Campus (1400 East Fifth Street, Tyler, TX 75701). Our courses are offered face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Face-to-face and hybrid courses are taught in the Pirtle Technology Building, Room 201.
- Students enrolling in the Child Development/Early Childhood Program will be subject to a criminal background check.
- All Child Development/Early Childhood (CDEC) courses have a required textbook.
- Some courses are only offered during fall semester or spring semester, but not both. Please plan accordingly.

- **CDEC 1303 , CDEC 1311 , and CDEC 1318 content is aligned with Texas State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities Standards, which requires students to participate in a minimum of 16 hours of field experience with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations. The field experiences are aligned with these Standards and may not always be approved for students living in another state.
- Students living in the TJC Service Area, or within 35 miles of TJC, must complete the required field experiences at TJC’s Laboratory School, the Family Learning Center of Tyler.
- Those living outside of the TJC Service Area, or more than 35 miles from TJC, may complete the required field experiences at an accredited or approved childcare center or school in their service area.
- A TJC Facility Agreement must be completed and returned prior to the student beginning field experience hours at an approved alternative center/school.
- Students should follow the guidelines for the field experience requirements outlined in each individual course. For more information, contact the Department Chair, Lynn Sitton, at lynn.sitton@tjc.edu or 903-510-2921.
