Emergency Management, BAS

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Emergency Management prepares graduates for entry to mid-level management positions in local, regional, state, and federal governmental agencies. Graduates of this program will provide valuable expertise in the areas of public safety, emergency planning and preparedness, leadership, emergency response operations, and financial management.

This program model is a skills-based degree with emphasis placed on instruction, assessment, and student demonstration of the required knowledge and skills necessary for workplace success.

Students are eligible to apply for admission to the Emergency Management, BAS program if they have earned an associate of applied science degree in an emergency management-related discipline (e.g., Criminal Justice, Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Emergency Medical Service Professions, Fire Protection Technology, Law Enforcement Investigations, Paralegal, and Public Administration). Alternatively, if students have earned an associate degree, but not in a emergency management-related discipline, they may pursue the Emergency Management and Homeland Security, ATC  before applying to this program.

Marketable skills for this award include: analytical/quantitative skills, building effective relationships, critical thinking, leadership, organizational skills, problem-solving, project management, and verbal communication skills.

In addition to the Major Courses, the student is required to take 44 credit hours from the TJC Core Curriculum . These courses must not duplicate courses taken to fulfill the major course requirement.

  1. If you meet the requirements as stated above, the steps to apply are as follows:
    1. Apply for admission to TJC at: https://www.tjc.edu/admissions
    2. Complete and submit a selective admission application for the Emergency Management, BAS program via the selective admissions application: www.tjc.edu/selectiveadmissions
      1. Email an electronic version of the Selective Admissions Application to the department chair.
      2. Deliver a hard copy of the Selective Admissions Application to the Office of the Dean of the School of Professional and Technical Programs, located in the Pirtle Technology Building, Room 203 on TJC’s Central Campus.
  2. Applicants with prior college-level coursework, or an AAS, AA, or AS degree which is non-healthcare related, or those without the required associate’s degree should consult with an academic advisor or the department chair for additional admission information about the degree program.
  3. All required major courses for the Emergency Management, BAS program must be completed with a “C” or better.
