The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program prepares graduates to serve as professional Registered Nurses (RNs), who are vital members of the healthcare team. RNs provide and coordinate patient care, educate and support patients and families, manage nursing care, and delegate team functions across diverse healthcare environments.
The program is structured around the National League for Nursing (NLN) outcomes and competencies for graduates of associate degree programs, fostering human flourishing, nursing judgment, professional identity, and a spirit of inquiry. These competencies ensure that graduates deliver safe, quality, patient-centered care while demonstrating accountability, clinical judgment, and lifelong learning.
Guided by the Texas Differentiated Essential Competencies (DECs) for Associate Degree Nursing education, the curriculum emphasizes the RN’s roles as Member of the Profession, Provider of Patient-Centered Care, Patient Safety Advocate, and Member of the Health Care Team. Students apply evidence-based practice, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to promote health and manage care across the lifespan.
The program also upholds The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) by integrating patient identification, effective communication, safe medication administration, infection prevention, fall prevention, and health care equity throughout all learning experiences.
Graduates are prepared to deliver safe, competent, and compassionate nursing care consistent with current standards and regulations, and upon completion of the ADN curriculum, are eligible to apply for licensure as RNs.
