Location(s): Central Campus

The Child Development/Early Childhood, Occupational Skills Award (OSA) will prepare someone for entry-level work in the childcare field.

An OSA is the most basic sequence of courses that will prepare students for employment. Students are not able to declare an OSA as a major, or pursue one as an end goal. However, almost all OSAs are built into other certificates and/or majors, and they will be automatically awarded to students as they complete coursework in those certificates and/or majors.

Anyone wanting to work with children and families would benefit by obtaining the training and the opportunity to observe early childhood classrooms in TJC’s laboratory school, The Family Learning Center of Tyler.  Earning the OSA would provide the opportunity to work with children in a licensed child care center, as a nanny, or possibly in a private or public school as a paraprofessional.
