The Surveying and Geomatics: Professionals', Certificate is an 18-hour selective admission certificate, taught online-only. This Level One, TSI-exempt certificate has been requested by industry and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors to help fill an industry gap. It is designed for industry professionals who have already met some of the higher education requirements for licensure, but lack enough credit hours in surveying-specific curriculum to complete the process. This certificate will provide students with the surveying credit hours they need to meet some of the statutory requirements for Iicensure and increase the upward mobility of their careers.
This certificate is designed to begin in the fall of each academic year with students taking six credit hours in the fall, six credit hours in the spring, and six credit hours in the summer. Courses are taught in “mini-semester” format, meaning students complete one course at a time working sequentially through the curriculum over one academic year.
Students completing this certificate will learn the history and evolution of the surveying profession, and analyze and solve surveying related problems, including: coordinate geometry, trigonometry, horizontal and vertical curves, and geodetic computations. Students will learn to identify and apply the appropriate case and statute law as it applies to the legal principles of boundary surveying in Texas, and to analyze and communicate information effectively using geographic information systems.
Enrollment in this program is limited. See the Selective Admissions requirements in the How to Get Started section of this Catalog. Individuals interested in the Surveying and Geomatics: Professionals’, Certificate should contact the department chair for more information.
