Location(s): Central Campus

Specimen processors are an important part of the medical laboratory team. They support laboratory professionals in the collection, preparation, and analysis of biological specimens. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on laboratory training, students develop the technical skills, knowledge, and professional behavior required to work effectively in a medical laboratory setting.

Students will learn specimen collection techniques (including phlebotomy), laboratory safety protocols, quality control, data entry, and basic laboratory testing procedures under the supervision of certified laboratory technologists. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, attention to detail, patient care, confidentiality, and effective communication.

In addition to being able to work as a specimen processor or laboratory assistant, completion of the Specimen Processing, OSA provides academic credit that students can apply toward the Medical Laboratory Technology, AAS Degree.
