HTMS 3303 - Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management Semester Credit Hours: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0
Revenue cycle management is the set of financial and operational processes, utilizing the electronic health record and billing and coding software that tracks patient care episodes from scheduling and registration to final payment of a balance. The students will be introduced to health insurance claim forms for various types of insurance plans and use this information as a practice management and outcomes assessment tool. Additional topics include billing and claims management issues. Students will explore a range of tools and resources needed to optimize revenue cycle including how to verify insurance eligibility and determine benefit levels, the different claim forms and the importance of collecting accurate information for submission, how to successfully appeal denied claims, and more. Students will also learn how to effectively communicate to patients and provide exceptional customer service.
