The Bachelor of Applied Science degree (BAS) in Emergency Management prepares graduates for entry to mid-level management positions in local, regional, state, and federal governmental agencies. Graduates of this program will provide valuable expertise in the areas of public safety, emergency planning and preparedness, leadership, emergency response operations, and financial management.

This program model is a skills-based degree with emphasis placed on instruction, assessment, and student demonstration of the required knowledge and the skills necessary for the workplace success .

Marketable skills for this award include: analytical/quantitative skills, building effective relationships, critical thinking, leadership, organizational skills, problem-solving, project management, and verbal communication skills.

The Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Management is contingent on the completion of an emergency management-related associate of applied science degree.

Major Courses: 34 Credits

TJC Core Curriculum: 26 Credits

In addition to the Major Courses, the student is required to take 44 credit hours from the TJC Core Curriculum . TJC Core Curriculum. These courses must not duplicate courses taken to fulfill the major course requirement.

Select any number of elective hours needed to bring the total semester hours to no fewer than 120.

All required major courses of the Emergency Management BAS program must be completed with a “C” or better.

Applicants are eligible for admission to the program if they have earned an associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Investigations, Emergency Medical Service Professions, Paralegal, and Public Administration

Applicants with prior college-level coursework or an AAS, AA, or AS degree which is non-healthcare related or those without the required associate’s degree should consult with an academic advisor or department chair for additional admission information for the degree program.

  2. Complete and submit a selective admission application for the BAS program via

Email the Emergency Management BAS selective admissions application to the Department chair. Drop off the information at the Office of the Dean of the School of Professional and Technical Programs, located in the Pirtle Technology Building, Room 203 on TJC’s Central Campus.
