Our Surveying and Geomatics certificate program teaches the basic elements of surveying required of a land surveyor, as well as part of the formal training required for professional license.
Our highly qualified staff emphasize boundary surveying. This includes history related to the Texas land system; evaluating property corners; measuring boundaries; describing land by metes and bounds; calculating land areas; the creation of “record sketches,” “deed sketches,” and “results of surveying maps;” and use of the Texas Coordinate System. Mapping, route surveying, control surveying, geodetic surveying, the Global Positioning System (GPS), and computer-aided drafting/design (CADD) are also studied.
A one-year certificate of proficiency is available to students completing certain designated courses. Graduates can enter the workforce as well-trained surveying technicians.
Note: It is recommended this certificate be pursued by persons who already have a degree and are seeking Texas Board of Professional Engineering and Land Surveying (TBPELS) registration requirements.
Marketable skills for this award include: mathematics, problem solving, team work, and time management.
